The word maven comes from the Yiddish meyvn, meaning “one who understands.” But to be a maven you have to more than just understand a topic, you have to know its ins and outs. Often mavens are the people that you turn to as experts in a field. You don’t become a maven overnight. That kind of expertise comes with an accumulation of knowledge over the years.

Why Mavens On Main?
The name Mavens On Main, is a nod to Staci’s Grandma, Mae Griffey. Mavens On Main is the sister business to The Sugar Maeᐧven- Custom Desserts.
Grandma Griffey embodied the definition of a Maven. She was a very experienced baker and was so knowledgeable when it came to anything that came out of the oven. She loved to share her passion with her whole family through baking and letting the little ones help on a daily basis.
Staci and her sisters spent a number of their early years living with their Grandma Griffey. Staci has fond memories of the constant smell of freshly baked goods, running past the kitchen table and sneaking a warm freshly baked treat to snack on, being sent outside with a little bowl of sugar as they were tasked with the job of picking strawberries and rhubarb for Grandma’s Famous Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, or spending the early morning with her hands in a giant metal bowl of bread dough so Grandma could bake fresh bread for dinner.
The knowledge and experiences that Grandma Griffey shared, eventually led Staci to pursue a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts and sparked a passion that made a small coffee shop and cafe her life dream. The whole idea behind the cafe is to go back to her roots and do things the right way, from scratch, with fresh ingredients, just like her Grandma Griffey did on a daily basis.
So, when the opportunity arose to actually fulfill that dream, she knew she had to pay respect to the lady that inspired it all, the true “Mae·ven”, Mae Griffey!
